(DEPEW, NY) "The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditional lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home." (Quote From Today’s Supreme Court Decision)
By a vote of 5-4, The United States Supreme Court today ruled that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees a fundamental, INDIVIDUAL right to own a firearm. This is a tremendous victory for those us who believe that we have the right to defend ourselves in self-defense and for legal purposes. The United State’s Supreme Court had not conclusively interpreted the Second Amendment since its ratification in 1791. The amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
The basic issue for the Supreme Court Justices was whether the 2nd amendment protects an individual's right to own guns no matter what, or whether that right is somehow tied to service in a state militia. In clear terms, the United State’s Supreme Court said that your right to possess a firearm in your own home is an individual right and has nothing to do with your role, or lack of role, in any militia.
This is a tremendous victory for those who believe in an individuals right to own a legal firearm. I am pleased by this decision.
